A bit of nothing

Do you ever have one of those days where you feel bound and determined to do absolutely nothing? It's one of those days for me. It's the lull between big events for me. I just finished up the term's class I help teach, and tomorrow is the final exam. Technically, I have nothing I HAVE to do today. Although there are the inevitable papers to grade. And shopping to do. And dinner to make. And a lesson to prepare for church on Sunday. And a room to clean. And a budget to figure. And a few things to research. But nothing with a pressing deadline. So I'll ramble on my blog about absolutely nothing.

My mom bought a new car last week and is selling her old one to me for a really good deal. It's really nice to have a car. But now there is a pandora's box of new bills for me to pay. Gas, insurance, maintenance, repairs, car wax, fuzzy dice! Yikes!

I finished reading "The Hobbit" last week and started several other books in the meantime. "The Witch of Blackbird Pond" was on my bookshelf, so I picked it up, along with two books I found at my parents' house when I came home for Father's Day ("Ramona and her Mother" and "Aunt Erma's Cope Book" by Erma Bombeck). Along with those books and "The Wind in the Willows," I'm currently in the middle of 1 Nephi in the Book of Mormon and Genesis in the Bible. I've never read the Bible cover to cover. I always wind up skipping a few chapters in Chronicles. My eyes start to glaze over when I get to the 470th "and so-and-so begat so-and-so."

I'm gonna hafta go camping soon. I've planned about 3 camping trips that have all fallen through. My roommate's family is taking a trip up to Rupert, Idaho (which, apparently, is in the middle of nowhere) to camp, so I might go with them. It's a shame to have new camping equipment just sitting there clean and unused in my closet. A darn tragedy, I say.

So, did you actually go camping?

Today is my nothing day. Except for dropping the kids off at a friends house, finishing packing the house, loading the truck, cleaning the house, picking up the kids, and then moving out of state (and getting to the apartment by 7pm so that the missionaries can help us unpack…and then feeding the missionaries…then getting enough of the kids things unpacked so that they can sleep…and then…and then…). Yep, absolutely nothing pressing to do today. ;)

You have a car!!!! YAY!!!! Road trip to Tennessee for you!!!! :P

I'm bound and determined to finish the Old Testament this year. If you want my advice on how to make it though, go get the 2 CES handbooks that go with the OT (I think less than $10 at the church distribution center). I've never understood so much of the Bible or felt the principles so deeply. I've started reading the Bible at least 2 or 3 times in the past and never made it through, or learned enough from the stories to remember them. Now, not only am I reading, I'm looking forward to reading! It takes on a whole new dimension when you understand what is going on!! (and I can't help thinking about a quote I heard in a sacrament meeting talk that made me laugh: If you want to keep anything a secret in the church, write it down in a handbook) :)

Good luck going camping!!! I've always wanted to hike the Zion Narrows (http://www.zionnational-park.com/zion-narrows.htm). If you can get a group together, you'd all enjoy it I'll bet! :)

I love the witch of blackbird pond! ...the book, I mean. I probably would love the witch, too, actually.

Why don't you come camping in Wyoming? We've got a lot of neat stuff here and there's that feeling of unsettled frontier that you just don't get in Utah anymore...maybe you can get it in a place like Rupert, ID, though. Come up in August and you can go to the Jackson Hole Relay for Life with me.
Right now I'm reading John Adams by McCullough and Longitudes and Attitudes by Friedman. They're both good, but when I read 1776 and From Beriut to Jerusalem, I couldn't put them down.
I just got a letter from KR with some Romania pictures. One of them involves brownie batter up to elbows and all over teeth...lets get together and make some brownies or chicken foot soup.

Yes, the fuzzy dice are a must. LOL

I wish I had a day to just do nothing. I really would love to go camping, or go to the beach, just something nice and relaxing, but Randy is now at work more than he is home, so I am forced to wait for him to get time off first.

Maybe September is what I am told, then we will do something fun on vacation.

Unused camping gear is a tragedy, agreed!!!

brock - so you've got a testimony of the magic of fuzzy dice, eh? *bob chortles* and what do you mean 'there are more exciting places to go' than rupert, id?!? it's the pinnacle of camping society! ok, so... actually, my roommate has family in rupert, so that's why we'd be going there of all places.

bfk - no, it would be in a few weeks. but i may have found a new camping buddy to plan *another* trip with. who knows, maybe it'll work this time...

feathersky - i think i may actually have those manuals already. they're in a box in storage somewhere - i'll have to fish them out. and the quote on secrets is funny because it's true! did i tell you i'm rs pres as of today? who'd'uv thunk?

erin - goodness gracious, i really should head up to wyoming! and with julie (when she gets back from ghana). i'd be totally up for the chicken foot soup, but i think brownie ingredients would be more accessible ;)

hp - september's not so far off. it's something to look forward to, eh?
