I'm the third of four kids and graduated with a degree in international development. I've been to Ecuador and Romania on orphan support missions and hope to go to Uganda or Mexico within the next few years on similar endeavors. I did a field study in Guatemala and may someday finish my writeup to the point of publication. My favorite color is periwinkle, and I wear argyle socks with everything. I love to bounce ideas off of people. Please, let me pick your brain. Comments are encouraged.
I finally got my hands on a good picture of our first fire-blowing adventure (seriously, Mom, it's not very dangerous...). All I had before was some video footage, which I couldn't figure out how to upload to Blogger. Anyhow, here it is.
We used cornstarch (a few people have since tried powdered sugar 'cuz it tastes better, but apparently, it gets wet in your mouth faster and doesn't produce flames that are satisfactorily large).
I'd really like to learn how to do that! I have a feeling it could come in handy--I teach youth Sunday School. This could bring a lot of Bible stories to life.
Peculiar fact: my mom has come to visit your site more than once in fact; and when coming upon this image she was perplexed and turned to me to ask 'but isn't Mightybob a girl? i thought she was a girl'. 'No, no, ma [i adopted this likely from Meathead]; i don't think that the person depicted is mightybob at all; rather i think she was the photographer.'
Bob: Yea, right, not dangerous. Quiet elk: Funny, I never heard anything about this. feathersky: Which camp? With you as leader or kid? killer funny? You probably won't think it is quite as funny when Jaedin comes home with singed eyebrows--ha. And with the father and mother he has, you know its a possibility. erin: you want to teach this in Sunday School?

This picture makes me even more excited to try this. You will have to come as instructor.
We used to do somthing kinda like that in scouts, only we called it blue flame.
At camp we use to do "peanutbutter wishes" on the new kids. But it involved singeing all the hair off their face and the practice was banned. :)
Killer funny though!!!
pi pa - ohhh, yeah! and before it starts snowing again...
qe - yeah, it's not quite as safe when it's blue, though. there's just something about that scout juice... :)
feathersky - peanutbutter wishes?? please do elaborate...

good call, chrisso. say hi to your mom for me.
bfk - don't knock it 'til you've tried it (how 'bout October 27th'ish? wouldn't that be fun?!?)
Yes I do. I go to a rather liberal church.
