It's time to say goodbye...
I moved out of my apartment today. I think maybe the reality of the fact that I'm moving on past this 8-year stage (undergrad studies, that is...) of my life may kind of almost maybe be starting to think about sinking in. I've been so dang busy lately that there hasn't been time to begin digesting it, much less dealing with closure. Granted, I don't graduate 'til August. But the rest of my time will be off-campus. I can't say I'll miss the college experience a whole lot (who knows - ask me after I get a "real job" in the "real world"), but I'll definitely miss the relationships I've formed with a lot of really awesome people here. My employers and roommates over the years have made a pretty big impact on how I view the world and process information around me (not to mention their influence on my vocabulary...). It will be interesting to see who strays across my path in the year to come.
I'd like to dedicate this post *sniffle!* to Garth, Dave, Jules, Ash, Mochi, Weesh, Babycakes, Poogus, Cat, Lea Nomer, Stanca, Amanda, Julie, Mary, Holly, Stephers, Leanders, Daniel, Kara, and Mr. Rogers (yes, your neighbor and mine!). What do you have to say about that, Mr. Rogers?:
"If you could only sense how important you are to the lives of those you meet; how important you can be to the people you may never even dream of. There is something of yourself that you leave at every meeting with another person."
-- The World According to Mr. Rogers
Thank you, gracias, danke, multumesc, and ciao for the time being...

Time to say goodbye is one of my all-time favorite songs!
Having had my share of transition times I know somewhat of what you're going through! Like right now we're about to move 3/4ths of a mile away from our apartment into a house which is TOTALLY comparable to you moving to another country. You have to learn a new language and I have to learn how to operate a garage door opener. See? I know what you're going through ;)
Best of luck! We're looking forward to seeing you at the wedding :)
Here's the English translation to the song, although you probably speak whatever language is being sung anyway...
Sarah
When I'm alone
I dream of the horizon
and words fail;
yes, I know there is no light
in a room where the sun is absent,
if you are not here with me.
At the windows
show everyone my heart
which you set alight;
enclose within me
the light you
encountered on the street.
Time to say goodbye. -- I'll go with you
to countries I never
saw and shared with you,
now, yes, I shall experience them.
I'll go with you
on ships across seas
which, I know,
no, no, exist no longer;
it's time to say goodbye. -- with you I shall experience them.
Andrea
When you are far away
I dream of the horizon
and words fail,
and, yes, I know
that you are with me;
you, my moon, are here with me,
my sun, you are here with me
with me, with me, with me.
Time to say goodbye. -- I'll go with you
to countries I never
saw and shared with you,
now, yes, I shall experience them.
I'll go with you
on ships across seas
which, I know,
no, no, exist no longer,
Both
with you I shall experience them again.
I'll go with you
on ships across seas
which, I know,
no, no, exist no longer,
with you I shall experience them again.
I'll go with you.
You and me.
(see? isn't that a sweet translation?) :)
Mighty Bob, I want to take this opportunity in this somewhat public forum to tell you how much I absolutely love you. You are so amazing and you have so much to give to everyone around you. I am so grateful for the four months I was able to live in your wonderful light. I remember some of our first late-night conversations and I remember thinking how much I liked talking to you and hearing your opinions. Through the semester, you helped me to smile; you showed me how to work hard; you inspired me to be better; you became a good friend.
So here's to you, Mighty Bob. Here is to the amazing woman that you are. Here is to all the amazing things that are waiting in your future. And here's to the past and the wonderful memories!
Well, I had a cooler post but Firefox had to restart and dumped it. So, I shall say what I remember: you're freakin' awesome, a person I feel blessed to know. I'm grateful for our friendship and always glad to see you. I'll be looking in regular-like. :)
A bientôt!
It will be interesting to see "where in the world" Mighty Bob ends up. Its ok with me if you end up back home (or at least in the general vicinity). I love you.
feathersky, it's so good to know there's someone who can relate with my situation ;) i can't wait to see you at the wedding. are you guys flying in on the 25th?
piqpar, in the words of the modern philosopher poogus, "you are a rockin' taco!" i really mean that. knowing you is a gift from god.
mightyguin, i love your stinkin' guts! thanks for being a good friend to me.
bfk - i'm pretty curious to see 'where in the world' mightybob winds up, too ;)
To quote Judy Maxwell, one of my all time favorite movie characters, "...let's not say goodbye. Let's just say au revoir." And we both know how that ended up. Don't do it Bob! No stealing Chinese Dragons! I mean it. It's not worth it. ;)
oh cynthia, cynthia... i'm not saying goodbye or au revoir - i'm saying ciao. i don't recall judy maxwell ever saying ciao, do you? (and besides, the chinese dragon was paid for in the end, right?...)
Ah it really isn't goodbye. Friends are friends regardless of where they live. I'm very proud to call you my friend, Bob. I was remarking to my roommate that I miss going on late night walks with you to Smith's. Mmm, I do love those ice cream cookie sandwiches.
