greetings from Guatemala...

I’d like to give a shout-out to all my peeps still reading this blog. I’m alive and well in Guatemala, and I was correct in assuming I’d get internet access about once a week. I spend all week taking detailed notes about everything I see in the tiny community of Nueva Ixtahuacán. Then I come down to Nahualá (where there is an internet cafe!) to meet with a professor and other students working on similar projects each Monday, and we skip town to give our communities a break every other weekend. I think I’m over the initial homesickness and stomach sickness that are common in situations like these, and I’m ready to dig in and get some serious work done. I’m here to study parental involvement in children’s education. I’ve made some good contacts with teachers and some children, I think. Now I just need to get ahold of parents. Wish me luck. I’ll be doing a lot of interviewing.
