Oscars!

Mighty Bob and another happy film participant
*we match!*

Well, the big night finally came - Oscars! If you don't know what I'm talking about, check out here, here, and here. 'Twas a night of glamour, prestige, and fate. Five films were presented, but only one was awarded the coveted "Best Film" trophy. All five were pretty darn good, considering they had a $0 budget to work with.

OK, so my group's film didn't get "Best Film," but we did win "Best Costume Design," "Best Facial Hair," "Best Director," "Best Supporting Actress," "Best Comedic Actor," and "Best Comedic Actress" *moi!*. So I can't complain... I will anyway, though - someone else won "Best Wig," and I feel totally robbed!

OK, now that I've got that out of my system, I'll tell you what the film was about. We loosely based it on a documentary called "Vernon, Florida", which documents the daily life and lore of an intriguingly quirky town in the backwoods of Florida. I highly recommend it.

Our adaptation is laced together with an interview of the small town's head of the Chamber of Commerce. He describes how peaceful, prosperous, and generally enlightened the people of the town are... and between his statements are clips of the citizens sleeping with crowbars under their pillows, chasing ducks to steal their bread (and catching fish by hand in a pond), and hiding in clothes dryers (and other unusual places). My role is that of an elderly woman, and I speak unintelligibly about my crazy granddaughter Tessie who is hunting skunks in the woods behind me. Subtitles were added later with statements I don't remember uttering... something about the Proletariat. Anyhow, fun shtuff.

sounds like fun!! i was in one of my friends' movies earlier this semester. my part was the "make-out" girl. very odd to pretend to make out with my best friend. ehhehe

quick question, why did you draw over everyone's faces? it's kinda creepy.

I don't like to post people's pictures online without their permission, and I don't put family faces online regardless. I've known a few people who've had really icky experiences online, so I like to maintain at least a small amount of anonymity (you never know who's reading your blog - just who's commenting). Anyhow, I thought it looked weird just blurring, so I thought I'd try something different. But you're right - it's kinda creepy. Any other ideas?

Well, if you're good at a little photoshopping, you could copy/paste some oversized sunglasses onto each face. That'd be funny and not creepy at all. And by the way, you have my permission to let my face show in your pics. :)

Wow, I'll get to be one of the people who can say "I knew her way back when she was an old lady" :)

Don't worry about trying to stay anonymous. Just throw in a blog every now and then about how you sleep with a loaded gun under your pillow and how you ate the neighbor’s dog...raw. That'll keep the weirdo's away (or get them closer...which were you aiming for again?) :)

Perhaps cut out cartoon faces or those 50's magazine faces with big plastic smiles? But I personally, did not find the blurred faces creepy...I thought they were quite humorous. I'll tell you what does creep me out...when movies show faces with missing features: example, Twilight Zone the movie, where the kid took his sister's mouth away, Matrix, where Neo momentarily has no mouth, and the most recent Harry Potter where the guy has very little nose. It just makes me super uncomfortable!!! But that might be me. However, drawn smily faces? I can handle that :)

Big Red - I'm not sure I have Photoshop, but that sounds like a good idea.

Art - I hope you have a wonderful day, too.

FeatherSky - You and I both know of my ability to draw in weirdos... maybe I'll start blurring my own face, too...

Mona - thanks! I saw an episode of the x-files once where a guy's mouth disappeared, and it was disturbing to me, too.
