I'm the third of four kids and graduated with a degree in international development. I've been to Ecuador and Romania on orphan support missions and hope to go to Uganda or Mexico within the next few years on similar endeavors. I did a field study in Guatemala and may someday finish my writeup to the point of publication. My favorite color is periwinkle, and I wear argyle socks with everything. I love to bounce ideas off of people. Please, let me pick your brain. Comments are encouraged.
Sooo... hypothetically speaking, if you were writing a missionary as a fictional neanderthal in modern society... what would you send in a Valentine's package? Ideas? Please?
I'd send a rock. What could say Neanderthal in Love more than a rock, maybe even a heart-shaped rock. And to save yourself some money, perhaps take a picture of said rock and send that!
thanks, zach! i already gave him rocks and an arrowhead in September (see http://parselysagerosemaryandthyme.blogspot.com/2007/09/package-from-brnhilda.html), but not HEART-shaped rocks yet...
I wouldn't send just any kind of rock. I'd send flint. If you strike flint with steel you can get sparks which can cause fire. This can represent the fire of your hunk-a-hunk-a burning love. :)
cousin guin! (i figure we must be related since we share 'mighty' in our names... :) thanks. those are good ideas. a pressed leaf would be practical, too - it can double as a bookmark.
as it turns out, my dad has a whole stash of flint (including some arrow-heads!) now to see about finding one that's fairly heart-shaped... :)

you're brilliant, bigred. absolutely brilliant!
Dang it...he took my rock idea. Second choice would be an arrowhead if you can find one.

lol. I should be a Neanderthal romance counselor.

yes, bigred. i think you should ;)
oh cynthia. cynthia, cynthia, cynthia... that's awesome! my question is... where do you find flint? hmm... i feel a bit of research coming on...
Look at places that sell stuff for scouts or historical flintlock guns. They have to put fresh flints in regularly.
Another possibility: Pressed leaf or flower. Or carved bone.
It's really hard to trump the rock idea though.
