Invited readers...

So I've changed the privacy settings on this blog (anyone reading it knows that already because they would have had to sign in first). I tried to send blog-reading invitations to anyone who might possibly already read it, who I am OK with reading it. I'm sure I missed a few people, though. Dangit. If I'm delusional and you didn't even know I *had* a blog, feel free to read at your leisure, but don't feel like you have to just because I invited you. The fact is, *deep breath* Creepy Ex-Boy-I-Dated-Very-Briefly-and-Then-Told-Me-I-Had-A-Mustache-When-I-Broke-Up-With-Him still reads my blog, and that makes me uncomfortable. So there you go.

Someday perhaps I'll write a post on recent dating blunders.

But for now I'll update you on a few other adventures...

First, my roommate. Roommate C found out a little over a week ago that she has a brain tumor. She's had headaches for years and years, but they've been getting worse recently, so she went in to see a headache specialist. The specialist couldn't really see anything unusual, so he had her go in for an MRI scan, which revealed a growth the size of a golf ball at the front of her skull. From what they could tell from that first scan, it looked benign. They told her it would probably be November 4th before the neurosurgeon's office could schedule her in, so she was expecting to be surgerized sometime around Thanksgiving (the US version, that is... chrisso...). I thought that sounded pretty weird. They had her come in for a couple more scans the next week, and she didn't hear from the doctor or radiologist for several days and into the weekend. Yesterday she called the neurosurgeon's office to request some paperwork she'll need for taking off work during the surgery, and they told her she could come in for a consultation today. Turns out she'll be under the scalpel this coming Monday. So I guess timing is all about who you talk to. Anyhow, keep her and her surgeon in your prayers, if you would. This is kind of scary business.

In other news, we had a big family reunion a couple weekends ago. It was for my mom's Romney cousins (yes, we are [distantly] related to Mitt...). It was so awesome! Two ambitions relatives put together and published a 233-page book chock full of stories and histories of our ancestors. A few choice lines:

  • "Elizabeth remembered with great remorse that they did not know the exact hour of her daughter's death since they were too poor to have a light."

  • "My wife is my best true and tried friend I have on earth. She is a good and virtuous a woman as ever lived on earth, without any exception."

  • "They made a sort of pact between them to always dance with the least fortunate girls."

  • "He suffered a crippling wound to his leg from a cannon ball in the Revolutionary War."

  • "When she died, it became necessary for her husband to adopt out the children."
I come from a pretty rich heritage.

Anyhow, I also got to carve pumpkins with my Little last weekend. It was fun! She felt pretty smug about being able to carve a ghost and a cat into her gourd in the time it took me to carve just my cat. Turned out pretty spiffy, I think.

Adventures, adventures...

regarding moving to invite-only: i admire your measured approach here. i mean, you could have simply obliterated everything, as..er..some tend to do.

thank you for being thoughtful and sending the invite.
