I asked the zebra,
Are you black with white stripes?
Or white with black stripes?
And the zebra asked me,
Are you good with bad habits?
Or are you bad with good habits?
Are you noisy with quiet times?
Or are you quiet with noisy times?
Are you happy with some sad days?
Or are you sad with some happy days?
Are you neat with some sloppy ways?
Or are you sloppy with some neat ways?
And on and on and on and on
And on and on he went.
I'll never ask a zebra
About stripes
Again.

I used to wonder that. Am I a good person who does bad things? Or a bad person who does good things? lol. I figure God made me good and I choose bad.
And I've decided Life is Good with some bad days thrown in.
the whole bad/good thing is kinda hard. cause sometimes you feel like you've failed so often that you must be naturally bad. but I think on happy shiney days I agree with bigredhammer. God made me good and I throw in the bad specks.
i like shel silverstein. he's a genius.
That's a terrific poem. Very good things to ponder in a non-threatening way :)
Shel Silverstein, as have a few others on this post commented, rocks! I think he was the author of the giving tree. Maybe not :|. I have read through other poems of his, and love them to bits. I like the alternating coloring you used with the lines of the poem.
I love Shel Silverstein because he is able to address poignant topics with delicacy and humor. And often he addresses nothing serious at all. What a talented man.
I recently found several of his books online for pretty cheap, so I bought "Where the Sidewalk Ends", "A Light in the Attic", and "Falling Up." I already owned "Lafcadio, the Lion who Shot Back". Someday I'll add "The Giving Tree" and "Uncle Shelby's ABZ" to the collection. Great stuff. Can't get enough.
