An exercise...

Try this:
Let's say your house is going to be destroyed by fire.
Make a list of everything you wouldn't want to be burned in the fire.

(the start of my list in random order:)
my parents & sister
the cat
fridge
microwave
scrap books/family albums
computer
washer and dryer
car
clothes!
stereo
CD/cassette/vinyl collection
the quilt grandma made
ma' food!!!...

How does this list compare with your prayers?
How often do you thank God, even for the basics?

I was surprised when I looked thru my list for a second time. When was the last time I even thought about what a great blessing a washing machine is? It's always just been there. This was eye-opening for me.

pretty surprising huh? How much we take for granted.... while doing this post on a 100 things about me i realised the importance of socks without holes... n all mine have holes 'cuz i've never learnt of their importance ;)

silly example, i knw.. but that's the way things are...

...when i realised how ungrateful i was being, i started thanking people for everything they do/do not do for me. Everything i have and don't have and well oh everything... i still do.

adios!

That's a really cool exercise. I never thought about what things I would want saved if a disaster were to hit my home. Although, thinking about it now, I realize that there are few material possessions that I would really be upset about if I lost. That's really cool!!!

Wow, I didn't realize what things were most important to me until thinking about this. Thanks for the eye opener.

-Family
-Journals
-Scrapbooks
-Puppy the Turtle
-My worn out Book of Mormon that I got when I was 8 and has about 20 different colored markings all through it!
-My collection of Maxwell books & other good books
-The baby quilts I made for both kids, the quilts Grandma made for both of them.
-Meaningful nothings like Jenacy's little maroon dress, Jaedin's tiny blue onsie that has a poop stain on it (he wore it when he came home the night he was born...got the stain shortly later!), the 4 band puzzle ring I gave Nathan for our anniversary, flags from each country we visited, a couple things my dad made for me. There's probably more. Most stuff could be replaced if there were a disaster. And if it all came down to it, if my family was safe, I'd be thrilled.

I've had that thought before. I probably don't show enough gratitude, but I do mention that I'm happy for where we live and that we're all healthy fairly regularly. I'm thankful I get to be a mom of the best two kids ever!

Great post :)

Hm, the house I live in now:

my roommates
my scriptures (had them a long time)
my computer (it's a form of communication AND it has my journal on it)
my mission nostalgia
my camping equipment

I have tons of other junk that well... it would be interesting if it burned. Fresh start kind of... and less to pack or clean up. lol Of course I would hate to have to move either.
