Goblin Valley

Went on a camping trip with some friends last weekend. I really love being outdoors. Especially with perfect weather and no mosquitoes.
It's awesome just to sit back and take it all in
(although that's not all we did...)

Goblin Valley has some of the most grotesque sandstone formations I've seen. Perfect for night games like "lighthouse tag" and "sardines."
This is actually where a scene from Galaxy Quest was filmed.

We also hiked a nearby slot canyon with lots of fun nooks and crannies.

The following is
documentation that BigRed and I were BOTH up before noon (before 8 a.m., actually) - shocking to anyone who knows either of us very well...

Those are some great photos.
Yes, I know, you are like me, stay up late, & sleep in(wish I could more often).
Looks like you had fun!

UY indeed. Thanks very much for the translation services. 1 year of university spanish can only get one so far..

Kind of fascinating with respect to the upper photo how disorienting it is in terms of dimension. It is difficult to tell just how large those natural structures are. 10 ft. high? 14 inches? i would believe both.

As irrational as it is, i might be itchy about hanging around too long near those sandstone formations. yes, they have been there for, oh, a couple thousand years [no idea..] but the second i'm underneath it is when it will choose to tip over!

thanks for sharing the images.

Hiking and not needing to take kids for "pee-pee" breaks?

Camping with friends--AKA sitting around a campfire without repeating at least 5 times that fire is indeed hot and not at any point quoting VeggieTales?!

Sleeping in until 8am (and I presume you weren't awoken by a 30 pound child sitting on your face)?!?!?!?!

Next time, I'm going camping and you're babysitting your niece and nephew ;)

It sounds like a great trip! I can't wait until we live closer and can go camping with you.

And, wow, this might be a dumb observation for how long I've known you...have you always worn glasses?

I'm impressed that you could squeeze yourself into such a small space in the cranny of a rock. If I ever got in that position, it would have to be for the rest of my life, because I'd never be able to get back out.
Hearing about Feathersky's hiking trip reminds me of why I quit hiking.

heatherpink - i'm a night owl and a noon waker for sure. But kids are a darn good reason to give up that kind of life.

chrisso - 10 years of Spanish study don't get me quite as far as I wish they would... i've got to admit, i was a little wary of jumping from rock to rock, with the same structure-tumbling, me-crushing thought in mind.

brock - picturesque? are you being sarcastic?

feathersky - it's a deal! you come close enough for me to babysit, and I'll be glad to take them while you camp. and yes, i've worn glasses for quite some time (but i also wear contacts a lot in recent years)

bfk - getting in was one thing. getting out was quite another. the possibility of the 'jaws of life' was a hot topic of discussion...
