This is the title of a list my roommates and I made for the semester.
Our ambitions:
1. Sample all 31 Baskin Robbins flavors
2. Pet the animals at the state fair
3. Go on a slap-daddy-jammin' campin' trip
4. Buy a gecko - a cute one
5. Clean up all da pooty tang (don't ask)
6. Go fireblowing (with cornstarch, not gasoline)
7. Read the Book of Mormon cover to cover
8. Pray together as an apartment
9. Have an 80's Nite party
10. Take a family (apartment) portrait
11. Learn a new foreign word every day
12. Repo the goldfish our neighbor took
13. Light a pickle (rumor has it if you stick wires in a pickle and plug them in, the pickle glows in the dark... I'll post if it works)
What are your goals before the new year?

Hey! Aren't you guys going to BYU? "Get Married" wasn't anyone's goal?!?! Or are you holding out for the free tuition? ;)
Hmm... Well, I got out our old goal sheet that we made back in January, blew off the dust, and then fell over laughing! Get this: Nathan still isn't under 200 lbs. Potty train Jaedin? Yeah RIGHT! And a weekly date? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
Maybe we should have had something more realistic, like lighting a pickle, or eating a gallon of ice cream all in one sitting.
I actually accomplished ONE of the goals: get back to pre-pregnancy size. Heck, with all the complications I was that when I left the hospital! But I've lost another 10 since then too :) Yee-haw!
Feather Sky,
Yeah, at this point I'm holding out for the tuition reimbursement ;)
If you'd go back on the "Redcliff" diet, I'm sure Nathan would have no problem slimming down. You could make him do dishes for ketchup *evil laugh* Jaedin seemed like he was about ready for potty training in August - has he reverted back to his 1-year-old ways?
Mighty Bob, off subject question for you.
What would you do to help the Sudanese refugees escaping the genocide in Darfur?
Get the Book of Mormon read
Buy a digital camera
Host a Halloween party
Host an 80s party
Host a murder mystery
I think OUR Redcliff diet was a little different from the kids. We brought a lot of contraband :) The amount of hiking was the only thing that kept us from being obese! Nathan's problem now is that we have weekly exercise goals, and at the beginning of the year when we made the goals we were both going to exercise together, so I just made one sheet. Then Nathan got busy with work and it turned into just me recording my points on the sheet, and him taking credit for it! I come back from the gym all sweaty and gross and Nathan looks at the exercise point sheet and says "Man! I feel good! Why did I gain another 5 pounds?"
I think Jaedin's just teasing us now. He knows what he's supposed to do. And he knows that we get all sorts of excited when he does it. And then out of nowhere he'll pee on the floor. WHY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
I'm still holding out hope he'll get it soon. I have to have hope. I'd go crazy otherwise....
Witch,
I'm a little unclear on your context. Do you mean as a developmental worker if I were there, or as a relatively useless American citizen thousands of miles away? On a short or long term basis? Disaster relief "bandaid" help, or on a policy basis (or anti-corruption basis... it's a pretty shady situation over there)?
If I were there, I would help in the refugee camps (probably in Chad), particularly with the abandoned or orphaned children (since that's my specialty). From here in the States, there's not a ton I could do. Donating to the Red Cross or other legitimate NGO's (USAID, Save Darfur Coalition, etc.) would be a good possibility. Raising awareness, although not directly useful to refugees, can be helpful in the long run. Also, I'm a big believer in the power of prayer, especially collective prayer (there is a faith-based coalition praying for those suffering due to the genocide). www.savedarfur.org has some great ideas.
What would you do?
Hold on to the hope, Feather Sky! At least you know that by age 12 he'll have enough external social pressure to know he's "uncool" if he still pees on the floor at school (assuming he's out of home schooling by then...) Good luck. Did you ever know that you're my hero?
Brock,
Those are some pretty big goals. Until #9, I was wondering how on earth you propose to get all of them done before the end of the year. But I get it now. I've been working on #8 for some time. Well, I guess my term for it was "more kindness, less sarcasm." I tried giving up sarcasm for Lent last year. That was a dismal failure. Like Witch, often my brain/mouth filter shorts out (Case in point: one of my professors, who happens to be bald, found a hat left at the lecturing podium. He asked jokingly under his breath if it was some kind of a hint. I announced that 'yes - the glare is distracting.' It was one of those, 'did I really just say that out loud?!?' moments.) I probably need to fortify my efforts with more prayer. Good luck to you, Brock. Those are swell aspirations.
Big Red,
I didn't see 'buy a car' on there - is that still on the agenda for this semester?
i love the list! most of those I should start doing as well, repoing the goldfish i don't really need to do since i don't have a goldfish.
