"He was born in the summer of his 27th year
Comin’ home to a place he’d never been before
He left yesterday behind him, you might say he was born again
You might say he found a key for every door
He climbed cathedral mountains, he saw silver clouds below
He saw everything as far as you can see
And they say he got crazy once, and he tried to touch the sun
And he lost a friend but kept his memory
Now he walks in quiet solitude the forests and the streams
Seeking grace in every step he takes
His sight has turned inside himself to try and understand
The serenity of a clear blue mountain lake"
-- John Denver
There's something perpetually crisp, refreshing, and familiarly unexpected about the Rockies. They're good for the soul. The sounds, smells, sights, and spirit of the mountains give me a high that rivals chocolate. I guess that's why I'm having a bonfire with my roommates up in the mountains tonite. There's no better way to celebrate a special occasion. Support your local mountain!

i love the rockies. greatest place to camp if you wanna freeze your butt off with friends and laugh all night about almost sitting on the fire trying to warm up. :)
the bonfire sounds like a good idea, i'm very tempted to buy some marshmellows and do that, not in the mountains though...sadly. these mountains are nothing like the rockies but they sure are beautiful!
Brock,
Thanks for the encouragement. John Denver was a beautiful lyricist. His music really speaks to me.
Luckily, no wild animals approached us *oh my!*
Capt. Caf,
For some reason I was thinking you were at BYU in Provo. Can I ask what mountains you live by?
Marshmallows were a very good invention, I've decided. Have you ever tried roasting Starbursts on a stick? You roast them 'til they're bubbling on the outside, the pull them out and let them cool off. When you eat them they're crunchy on the outside and gooey on the inside. I also love wrapping refrigerator biscuits around a stick and roasting them over a fire. All we had this time was marshmallows... and a guitar. There's something about a guitar that makes a night by the campfire complete.
Its always best to go when you're not in a hurry so you can enjoy the mountains. Not having wasps present is also a plus.
Ah, how I miss the Rocky Mountains and the Utah desert! The best of both worlds. When I see your pictures I can close my eyes and smell the fresh scent of the pine trees and sage brush. I can't wait for the day we move back!
